Coyne on James Shapiro

Jerry Coyne offers a review of an article by his colleague, James Shapiro (Coyne didn't bother to read Shapiro's book). At least this time cousin Jerry didn't wait until his fellow biologist died before attacking him, as he did with Lynn Maruglis. I'll be interested in seeing whether Shapiro responds.

A bit of a low blow there. I'll be charitable and assume you didn't know Jerry had criticized Margulis before. A simple search of "margulis" on Jerry's blog, I mean website, would have cured you of that ignorance.

And why do you call Jerry Coyne your cousin?

PS. Am I the first commenter on this blog?

Coyne seems to have a habit of criticizing shorter statements of people he disagrees with, ignoring their more serious treatments. He did this recently with Plantinga's new book, basing his fairly dismissive discussion on Plantinga's short exchange with Dennett.

I'll do the search, Troy, and if you're right, I'll post an apology. I'm trying to remember the name of the Christian that Coyne likes to refer to as "uncle." I thought I would try to keep it in the family.

PS. No, I'm afraid you're not the first, Troy. But I think you might be within the first ten. Maybe even the first five.

Finally remembered his name: (Uncle) Karl Giberson.
