Welcome to Bilbo's Blog

Welcome to Bilbo's Blog, a place for political liberals who believe in Intelligent Design.

Why would there be a need for such a place?
Because most leaders in the Intelligent Design movement are politically conservative, and they let you know it. Because many liberals leaders don't believe in Intelligent Design, and they let you know it as well.

What do I hope to accomplish here?
1) Provide topics, information, or news for discussion relevant to ID.

2) Provide topics, information, or news for discussion relevant to politics.

3) Be a thorn in the side to conservatives and liberals alike.

  1. Hi Bilbo,

I am a former atheist, Marxist-leninist Brazilian, and by all angles I would be labeled as a liberal, and I am an IDist.

Hope your work will help to advance ID in this political side.

  2. Hi Bilbo,

I am a retired electrical engineer, who, by today's definition, would be labeled a conservative.

But in Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary we find the following:

(1)liberal: c: an advocate or adherent of liberalism esp. in individual rights.

liberalism: b: a theory of economics emphasizing individual freedom from restraint and usu. based on free competition, the self-regulating market, and the gold standard. c: a political philosophy based on belief in progress, the essential goodness of man, and the autonomy of the individual and standing for the protection of political and civil liberties.

By those definitions, I am a liberal.

The point of this post is that I would hope you would spend a post or two explaining what you mean by "liberal".

  3. For the life of me, Bilbo, I can't understand why a liberal would align himself with one of the most reactionary political movements in American history. Perhaps you can help me understand.

  4. Hi Bilbo!

I am surprised that more Liberals aren't with ID. It appears the libs who reject ID are only liberal if you don't buck their faith.

IOW liberals aren't very liberal at all.

What has happened to a free exchange of ideas?

Do people realize that there is only one reality behind our existence and that reality doesn't bow to politics and ad hom attacks?

And why don't these same people apply half the skepticism they have towards ID to the theory of evolution?

I would say most liberals are liberal just because they don't want to be a conservative. And they don't want to be a conservative because they don't like some/ most conservatives.

How do you turn a liberal into a conservative? Treat him/ her to an injustice.

  5. Hey AAG,

Could you tell me what "reactionary political movement" Bilbo has aligned himself with?

    Just curious.

  6. Hi joe g,

The Discovery Institutes wedge document clearly demonstrates that IDism is nothing but a tool to be used to help effectuate a cultural and political revolution to replace humanistic values with those of right-wing christian fundamentalists. The DI's biggest contributor is a christian reconstructionist who would like to see democratic government replaced by an old-testament based theocracy, complete with legalized slavery and execution by stoning of people such as gays, sabbath breakers and rebellious teenagers.

  7. What is the identity of the one "who would like to see democratic government replaced by an old-testament based theocracy, complete with legalized slavery and execution by stoning of people such as gays, sabbath breakers and rebellious teenagers" and what is the evidence for the claim?

    ID says nothing about religion.

ID does NOT require a belief in "God".

An atheist can be an IDist.

I am not a christian. I was but I grew out of it.

ID is based on observation and scientific data.

The DI did not start ID.

The DI's biggest contributor is a christian reconstructionist who would like to see democratic government replaced by an old-testament based theocracy, complete with legalized slavery and execution by stoning of people such as gays, sabbath breakers and rebellious teenagers.

Then why, when the DI explained the "wedge doc" do they flat out state they do NOT want a theocracy?

IOW why take the word of those who misinterpret the document over the word from the DI?

And as sir William has asked- who is the christian reconstructionist behind the curtain?

Or are bald assertions the best you can do?

BTW wouldn't a Christian want new testament based theocracy?

  9. The dominionist is Howard Ahmanson, Jr. Its easy to get information about christian reconstructionism. And BTW, a christian would not want a theocracy; many of the American colonies were founded by christians fleeing persecution for belonging to the "wrong" church. The people at the DI are professional liars; they serve a theocrat, regardless of what they claim their "true" motivations are.

  10. From Wikipedia:
"Christian Reconstructionism is a religious and theological movement within Protestant Christianity that calls for Christians to put their faith into action in all areas of life."

In other words if they believe in ID or do not support the gay agenda they should act on those beliefs. Moveon.org has a billionaire leftist financial supporter who seems to mirror image Howard Ahmanson, Jr. This looks to me like mutual villification of wealthy finacial contributors. IOW, politics as usual.

aag, where you are really off base is with your depiction of DI fellows. They have held their present convictions for years. It has as much to do with Howard as my own views- meaning nothing at all.

  11. Hi Wiiliam Bradford,

Ahmanson is funding the DI for a reason. The reason was outlined in the wedge document: to use ID as a weapon to effectuate a cultural revolution. It expressly states that the DI's goal is to overthrow materialism and its cultural legacies and have re-opened the case for a theistic understanding of nature. So much for atheistic IDists.

  12. Yet, ID continues to number among its ranks individuals who are neither conservative nor members of a religious organization. ID is much bigger than Ahmanson.
